Spread road safety awareness to more than 42,000 people of the city

Guwahati, 7 February 2023: Committed to spread road safety awareness to riders and drivers of Guwahati, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) and Transport Department, Goevernment of Assam celebrated 2nd anniversary of its Safety Driving Education Centre (SDEC) at District Transport Office, Kamrup (M), Betkuchi, Guwahati.


The celebration was held in the august presence of Sh. Gautam Das (District Transport Officer, Kamrup (Metro), R&L Betkuchi, Government of Assam) along with other dignitiaries from state’s transport department and HMSI.


Recognizing the importance of educating learner licence applicants of Guwahati before they come on roads, HMSI in association with Transport Department, Govt. of Assam inaugurated their first Safety Driving Education Centre (SDEC) of the state in Guwahati in February 2020.


Driving road safety awareness amongst the new riders and drivers of Guwahati, this unique iniative by HMSI has sensitized nearly 28,000 two-wheeler & four-wheeler learner license applicants of the city since its inception. In addition to this, HMSI’s road safety instructors at Guwahati SDEC have spread road safety awareness to more than 14,000 people of the city through its digital ‘Honda Road Safety E-Gurukul’ as well as classroom trainings.


Sharing his thoughts on road safety awareness, Mr. Prabhu Nagaraj, Operating Officer - Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, “Being a socially responsible corporate, HMSI is proactively inculcating safety riding habits to bring a positive change for road users at large. The development of Guwahati’s Safety Driving Education Center in association with Transport Department, Govt. of Assam is one such safety awareness initiative that aims to sensitize new riders and drivers of Guwahati so that they become responsible road users. We envision a collision-free India and our sustained awareness initiatives like this will enable us to realize this vision in times to come .”


About HMSI’s road safety training at Safety Driving Education Center at Guwahati

HMSI’s 2-hours free-of-cost mandatory training educates learner license applicants through theory session on road rules & regulations, road signs & markings, driver’s duties on road, riding gear & posture explanation and safe riding etiquettes. This is followed by a practical training on Honda’s virtual road safety simulator to increase an applicant’s risk prediction ability before they start riding on roads.


Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s CSR commitment towards Road Safety:

For Honda globally, road safety comes first. As announced in April 2021, “Honda will strive for zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles globally by 2050”. Fulfilling its corporate social responsibility (CSR), HMSI has been promoting road safety in India since its start in 2001. Working towards the realisation of Honda’s global safety vision, today HMSI’s road safety awareness initiative has already spread to more than 50 lac Indians. Its team of skilled safety instructors conduct daily programmes at its 10 adopted traffic parks across India and 7 Safety Driving Education Centres (SDEC).

Not only this, all HMSI’s 1000+ dealerships across India spread road safety awareness. HMSI’s proprietary virtual riding simulator increases the risk-prediction ability of riders; while new customers too are given predelivery safety advise (PDSA) before they start riding at every dealership across India.

Additionally, ensuring that learning doesn’t stop in the new normal, HMSI started the digital road safety education initiative - Honda Road Safety E-Gurukul. Since its start in May’20, this initiative has sensitized more than 8 Lac Indians on importance of being aware & responsible road users.
