IIA Odisha Chapter Marks World Architecture Day 2023 with Grand Celebration
Bhubaneswar, October 1, 2023: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Odisha Chapter commemorated World Architecture Day with great fervor and enthusiasm on October 1st, 2023, at Hotel Padmaja Premium Bhubaneswar. In partnership with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), the event aimed to honor and celebrate the architecture industry globally.
World Architecture Day, observed annually on the first Monday of October, was established by the Union of International Architects (UIA) in 1985, parallel to UN World Habitat Day. The day serves to highlight the challenges faced by cities and habitats worldwide. Architecture associations and organizations worldwide celebrate this day in line with themes set by the Union of International Architects.
This year's theme, "Architecture for Resilient Communities," took center stage. Ar Nitin Gupta, Managing Partner at ARCOP and the keynote speaker of the day, provided a comprehensive roadmap toward a sustainable future. He emphasized the importance of understanding the interconnections between stakeholders, targets, and community resilience. Through education, design, and planning, specific localities and communities can enhance their resilience, he noted.
Ar Swopnadutta Mohanty, the Chairperson of the IIA Odisha Chapter, highlighted the event's objective: to critically explore how architecture can actively contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The event aimed to raise awareness about architecture's role in building resilient communities and managing disasters effectively.
During the celebration, the IIA Odisha Chapter honored representatives from OSDMA for their outstanding contributions in disaster management and creating resilient communities. The event also featured a thanksgiving ceremony, where architect volunteers and industry partners were felicitated for their past contributions to the architectural fraternity.
The event witnessed the presence of esteemed architects, professionals, designers, faculties from schools of architecture, OSDMA officials, and industry partners from the state. The celebration not only honored the architectural industry's achievements but also served as a platform for discussions, knowledge sharing, and fostering collaborations to create a more resilient and sustainable future for communities.
