TPWODL has Taken Up Several Steps to Curb Wild Animal Poaching
Burla, 26.12.2024: TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWDL) has prepared the infrastructure for electricity distribution in the geographical area of 47,000 square kilometres of Western Odisha. The power supply line used for this electricity distribution has been stretched from one end to the other through the forest in many places. Taking advantage of this, some unscrupulous people are illegally hunting wild animals by hanging hooks from the power line and laying wires in the dense forest.
Therefore, the Western Odisha Electricity Distribution Company has taken various measures to prevent illegal hunting of wild animals through electricity. The company is putting up posters and banners in different parts of Western Odisha, distributing leaflets, informing people through loud speaker announcement, etc. In coordination with the employees of the state forest department and the field employees of our company, the movement of elephants are being monitored and the power supply also disconnected at different times. The company is creating public awareness through street plays called as Nukkad Natak, especially in sensitive areas of Western Odisha where illegal hunting of wild animals are taking place through live electricity.
A plan has been prepared for 500 such street plays for this year. Out of which, in the last two months, the company has already organized these street plays at 200 different locations of Western Odisha. Through this, public awareness has been created among around thousands of people of Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada districts to prevent illegal hunting of wild animals. Similarly, last year also, the company had organized street plays at different villages where wild life animal poaching took place.
“In the larger interest of the society, these street plays are based on the theme of preventing illegal hunting of wild animals through electricity in sensitive areas of Western Odisha. Safety of the public and wildlife is also our primary objective as an electricity distribution company. We are on the journey of excellence in safety and are committed for developing a strong safety culture in our workplace and at the society," stated Mr. Praveen Verma, Chief Executive Officer, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited.
